Materials for NTC thermistors
NTC thermistorresistanceNegative temperature Coefficient Thermistor is short for Negative Temperature Coefficient Thermistor. Its resistance value decreases with temperature rise and is used in temperature detection and temperature compensation circuits of various products.
Structurally, NTC thermistor matrix is a high-performance Electroceramics made from the oxides of nickel (Ni), manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co) and other metal materials in a high-temperature environment, and then coated with conductive paste at both ends to form electrodes.
In terms of appearance, NTC thermistors generally have lead type (THT), sheet type (SMD), etc.
Temperature characteristics of NTC thermistors
The resistance value of NTC thermistors varies exponentially with temperature and decreases with increasing temperature. The specific formula is:
RT=R0expB (1/T-1/T0)
Among them, RT is the resistance value at an ambient temperature of T (K), R0 is the resistance value at an operating temperature of T0 (K), and B is the constant of B. The B constant is the basic characteristic of NTC thermistors, representing the trend of resistance value changes with temperature.
It is worth noting that the B constant may slightly change with different temperatures, and the specific information should refer to the data sheet provided by the manufacturer.
The Application of NTC Thermistors
As the temperature changes, the resistance value of NTC thermistors will vary by 3-5%/℃. As a conventional temperature sensor, NTC thermistors are commonly used in electronic devices such as smartphones to prevent excessive heating of the phone, as overheating may damage some precision components and cause premature failure of key components of the phone.
It can be seen that NTC thermistors are temperature detectors for smart terminals. By measuring the temperature inside the smartphone, and then controlling and processing the temperature through this data, the terminal can be safe and worry free, eliminating potential safety hazards, and effectively improving the service life of the device.
